Mormon History, Feb 27, 1847

[Hosea Stout Diary] Saturday February 27th 1847. Today I was engaged some in preparing for the police ball which was to come off next Tuesday.
Went to the Council House, and attended a meeting of the officers of Brighams Company which had met to make preperations to send off the pioneers about the 15th of March[.] Here, after the business of the meeting was over, President Young spoke of the manner that the parties had been managed, and proposed for those who had been, not to go any more, as the house would soon be needed for something else. This, of course broke up the arraingements of the police for they had mostly been to some of the parties and Here the matter rested for the present. This veto came on the police at the time when all had just made all the necessary preparations for the party.
I came home and was around as usual and prepared the guard and at dark went out on guard untill about nine oclock
