Mormon History, Mar 6, 1847

[Hosea Stout Diary] Saturday March 6th 1847. This morning I went and saw Br Brigham and reported to him how matters went with the Policeman after he left me to which he only replied "You will then tyle accordingly"So I went and notified the police to meet at 6 oclock this evening at Jas W. Cummings for the purpose of trying the above case.
I also attended a pioneer meeting while there Bishop Miller sent in word for more help on the mill dam as the water was rising by the melting snow and was like to brake it so all hands turned out to the dam & I to see about the police meeting. We met and had his case up. He admitted most of the accusations to be true. He done well on an average during the trial[.] His case was well handled by the Quorum and the merits of his case plainly made manifest
He was what might me called "Whipped and cleared" for he was reprimanded sharp as is customary among police in such cases, but all in the best of feelings and after the investigation was over all was well satisfied with him and if he will profit by what has passed he will do wellif not he had best leave the police before he is disgraced.
We broke up at 12.
