[Hosea Stout Diary] Sunday Nov 7th 1847. Cold day. At home mostly. Went to council in the evening[.] Charles W. Patten had preferred a charge against myself and Allen J. S for yesterdays affair just as if he had been assailed by us when at the same time he had made an attack on Allen to rescue some cattle from him which he was driving to the stray pen[.] The trial was however laid over for the present.
The subject of the pay for the police was had up and move made by some of the police to have a new Collector which caused the subject to be agitated with considerable spirit as some of the Council were very sanguine in favor of Eldrege and the police as sanguine against him. The subject was then laid over till tomorrow evening
