[Minutes, Quorum of Twelve] Nov[ember]. 5. 1847. " past 10 am Meeting of the Council in Pres[iden]t. Young s house.
Present[:] Prest[ident]s. Young, [Willard] Richards, [Parley P.] Pratt, [George A.] Smith, [Wilford] Woodruff, [Amasa] Lyman, [Ezra T.] Benson, [Heber C.] Kimball, Joseph Young, John S. Fulmer, John Brown, Phinehas Young, N[ewell]. K. Whitney. J[esse]. C. Little.
Joseph Young stated that logs were brought to lay an addition to the Council house to make it as big again-for meetings, Councils, &c.
B. Young[:] I want this Council house kept clear this Winter-[It] may be used every night until 9 oclock then dismiss-
[B]rother France /[was] (introduced)/-[I] came here last April-[I am] going tomorrow to York State tomorrow on some business for myself & Sister Bets-[I am] going to Alleghany Co.-
[He] wishes to know if we want him to visit the branches-
H. C. Kimball[:] "I motion that there be a general Epistle sent to all the world," for what is suitable for one is suitable for another-E. T Benson seconded.
H. C. K.[: I]t will give universal satisfaction-if you dont, you will be troubled all Winter with letters.
W Richards[:] I do not consider there is any occasion for any letter for any man, until a general Epistle is written to all the world.
H. C. K.[:] It is no use for any man to go & Hollo tidings from the Lord, until he knows what the tidings are-
B. Y.[:] Next Sunday if [the] weather permits we shall give an acc[oun]t. of our labors-[I]t is the duty of the Saints to gather, [and to] rear up a Tempe to the Lord-[G]o & do the best you can-
Letter to John Brown [was] read-[It was] approved & signed-[then c]ountersigned [by] T. B. d[itt]o-Col. Little-d[itt]o-d[itt]o d[itt]o Phinehas Young related his account of going to the Camp, but denied his hearing orders to bring the mail-
Recommend to Matthew Ivory ag [was] read & accepted-
Letter to [the] Trustees [was] read-approved-& signed-[with a] Postcript added-
B. Young[: L]eave the keys of the Temple with Judge Owens, the Postmaster-
G. A. Smith[:] Judge Owens has always acted honorable towards us.
Letter to Lorenzo Snow [was] read, accepted, & signed. d[itt]o Thomas Kington read. P.S. [was] written-& signed.
W. Richards motioned that the letter to Dan Jones be not written until after the General Epistle-H. K. Kimball sec[onde]d. [It was] withdrawn-
Joseph Young & N. K. Whitney enquired what should be done with the books. [T]he Plates, Stereotypes of [the] B[ook] of Mormon are here. Most of the money belongs to John Taylor to make up.
H. C. Kimball motioned that the books be sold to pay the debt-
G. A. Smith motioned an adjournment. [It was] sec[onde]d. [and] carried-at call-
H. C. Kimball motioned a letter to Coll. Kane-[T]hanks for gifts, [we are] doing as fast as we can, [we are a great] deal fatigued. [We] co[ul]d. not send by bro Little [and] cant get [a] petition before Congress-
