[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] Garden Grove. Very pleasant and warm. While President Young was standing with President Kimball at his tent, an outcry was heard from HawÂ's camp. They went immediately and found that Haws and Thomas Williams and 2 more had a quarrel about some property, and that Haws had let Williams have some money on shares and had not received his share of the profits, which was the cause of the disturbance. President Young gave them a lecture and told Haws he could not govern himself, his family, or a company, etc. 10 to 12 noon, general council at the post office. Previous vote confirming Ezra T. Benson, counselor to Samuel Bent, was rescinded on motion of W. Richards, and Aaron Johnson was appointed in his place, and Samuel Bent received his letter of authority at Garden Grove (on file).
Teams were called for by the artillery and selected from the Church teams in the Band. George Colemere received an honorable discharge to go and fit himself out, signed by W. Richards, general clerk, by order of the commander-in-chief. About 1 p.m., Edmund Ellsworth started for Nauvoo with President BabbitÂ's carriage and mail of 5 letters. [At] 3 p.m., Twelve wrote the trustees by Levi Stewart to send twenty, 4 ox teams and wagons, fitted for the expedition and flour if they could, and let Stewart have one team to bring his family to our second farm. William Edwards, commissary of the third 50, died at 3 a.m. of a two weeks' sickness of bilious fever.
