[Hosea Stout Diary] Sunday January 24th 1847. Today my wife Louisa went to see her mother a distance of 8 miles. I was at home most of the time & "fixed" guard and at six met the Council at the Council House[.] At this council it was decided to have all the powder in the City delivered up to me for safe keeping least it might be accidentally "blown up" and destroy the lives of some one &c but after much "talk" on the subject afterwards the vote was recinded.
