[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] It is reported in camp that Henry Miller and Arza Adams, herdsmen, had robbed the dead Omahas of their clothing.
Elijah F. Sheets, born in Pikeland Township, Pennsylvania, March 22, 1821, and Margaret Hitchinson, born in the County of Nug., Herefordshire, England, July 1, 1819, were sealed husband and wife for time and all eternity by President Brigham Young at Winter Quarters, January 24, 1847. Wilford Woodruff and Edmund Gleason [were] witnesses.
At 6 p.m., municipal high council met in the council house, Alpheus Cutler present. Minutes read and received. A discussion took place about dead carcasses in the city. Three bishops made their reports and accepted. Bishop Fauscett made report of the effects of William A. Duncan, deceased, and was instructed by President Cutler what to do. Voted that Brother Cutler have further time to make report of road labor.
President B. Young wanted the bishops to see that the houses are not left to catch fire by negligence, [for] if anyone suffers, all lose. It will be wisdom to see the houses covered with dirt. Colonel Harris moved that all powder be placed in the hands of the captain of police and that he make a safe deposit of the same for the owners thereof. Seconded and carried. Vote rescinded. Meeting closed with prayer by C. P. Lott. Bishop Miller arrived in camp this p.m. [afternoon].
