[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] Elder G. A. Smith returned to Winter Quarters this p.m. [afternoon] on account of his health and reported that Elder Lyman and himself had held eight meetings among the brethren at various places between the Point and Brother PerkinÂ's camp. Elder Lyman remained visiting and found the brethren in a cold and indifferent state, compared with the brethren at Winter Quarters.
[At] 10 a.m., meeting of the captains of hundreds, fifties, of First Company. Met in council house. They formed the company into hundreds, and then appointed captains of tens and adjourned to Monday morning next. Presidents Morley and Young present. About 2 p.m., President Young called on the Dr. [Richards] who was still sick in bed but arose about 3, called at the store, John D. Lee's, Elder Woodruff, etc. About 4 ½ [4:30], Elder Kimball called at the Octagon. About 7, Elders Woodruff, Smith, and Benson called at Octagon, about 10, Brothers Young, all of whom heard their letter read to the brethren at Punca and the President signed it.
Wind south, thawing. Brother Alfred Brown brought in a mail from Mount Pisgah of about a dozen letters, most of which were from Nauvoo. Bishop Miller left Winter Quarters this a.m. [morning] for Punca. This evening the choir met at the council house and enjoyed vocal and instrumental music and dancing.
