[Hosea Stout Diary] Tuesday January 26th 1847. This mornining at ten oclock I went to the meeting of Hebers company at the council house, which met for the purpose of organizing as Brighams did last night. It was organized as follows to wit Alpheus Cutler was appointed President & Winslow Farr & Daniel Russell councillors. Henry Herriman, Isaac Higbee and Shadrach Roundy were appointed Captains of hundreds and John Pack, George B. Wallace, Levi E. Riter, Milo Andrus, Alvah L. Tippitts, and Harrison L Burgess were appointed Captains of fifties
The organization, as in Brighams company, stoped here and was left for the several Captains of hundreds & fifties to complete in their several departments.
Br. Heber proposed to the brethren present to build a house for Br G. Miller in case he would come here & take his place as Bishop with Bishop Whitney, which was agreed to on the part of the people.
This put me I mind of what Br Brigham said when speaking about Millers stubbornness and insubordination. He said that there was some men who had to be coaxed along with a lump of sugar to keep them from running off to the Gentiles & bringing persecution on us:But He said they would yet deny the faith & he would be glad how soon, for he would not coax much longer &c.
I regulated the guard as usual & was at home at dark.
