[Hosea Stout Diary] 15th M. At 7 oclock met with the police at B. Youngs to build him a Stable and at 9 oclock met at the Masonic Hall with B. Young C. C. Rich, S. Markham, G. Miller A. P. Rockwood G. W. Langley, D. Carn J. Scott, T. Turley, D. McArthur &c officers of the Legion to hold a council on the subject of defence against the mob it was then decided that the Legion be put in immediate readiness for defence and that I should be Brig Genl of the 2nd Cohort I then was summoned to go with Langley, Parker & A. Lytle to Genl MillersWe went and then adjourned to the Masonic Hall and wated an hour and was told by Miller that the subject of our meeting was laid over, I then went to the Nauvoo House Store and got some soap I came home, at 2 oclock and then went to see Brs Shumway and Weeks who were sick and then went to the shoe shop then to the police and home at dark.
