Mormon History, Apr 4, 1847

[Hosea Stout Diary] Sunday April 4th 1847. Dark, Damp, Warm, Pleasant. N E Wind. Meeting today at the stand but no particular cimcumstances transpired[.] I passed of the day as usual. Was at the meeting. Arainged the guard."Hard Sledding"Went to Council as usual. The subject of stockading the town was here put on the Bishops who were to work under the supervision of the Presidencies of the two grand divisions of the Emegration. This was done because the Bishops could call out the men more readily than the captains of hundreds & fifties. President Young proposed to hire some 8 or 10 good men to go and raise a crop for the Omahas to keep them away from here in the fall. I think this is a good idea. I came home at about 9 oclock P. M.
Had quite a rain in the night which is the first since I have been in my house, which is not far short of five months.
