[Minutes, Quorum of Twelve] Council of the Twelve in W[illard]. Richards Office at 8 P.M. Present (as they came in)
Parley P. Pratt, Orson Pratt, George A. Smith, Willard Richards, Ezra T. Benson, Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball-Joseph Young, Newel K. Whitney.
P. P. reported 469 /L
/Have this Council any right to interfere with the doings of any man in this Church[?]-No, if he /is/ doing right-
N[ewel]. K. W[hitney]. proposed to make out a Dr. & Cr. Acc[ou]t. of goods del[ivere]d. in W[inter]. Q[uarters]. then made a Dr. & Cr. of the disposal of those goods. After you have those Acc[oun]ts. Current brought before the men, & there is fault found, will it not come in a very different light[?]-Certainly.
B. Y.[:] If we knew that N[ewel] K W[hitney] was not dealing ri[g]ht. with the money, we have a perfect right to call him to acc[oun]t. for his acts-[T]hen said he handed over 1442 $ to Bish[op] W[hitney]-the moment he got it from the mill-[He] has fed nigh 150 mouths this winter.
[T]he building of the Mill has supported my family as well as the rest-When I was in a cramp the L[or]d. has just shoved it into my hands & liberated me-H. C. K. B. Y. motioned that bro K[imball] use up all your cattle & Wagons to remove the people.
H. C. K. just feels in the name of the L[or]d. God of Israel that he will square up all his acc[oun]ts. & have a pie: to spare-
B. Y.[:] I want bro Richards & bro Bullock to have some help, they are writing all the time, & I know bro Orson, he is poor, & bro G. A. Smith, he wants help, & Pat[riarch]. Smith, too. I want they should all be helped-
W. R. motioned that it be left entirely to Pres[iden]t. Young-sec[onde]d: & all carried.
B. Y.[: B]ro. Whitney ought to be liberated, & the rest helped with it. [W]e have paid nigh [$]3000. on that mill this Winter & sold it for [$]2600.
H C K[:] I feel to prophesy good concerning Israel. We should like bro P. P. & J. T. to bring the Instruments to us.
B. Y.[: W]e want our Exploring Co. to be out all the time-[W]hen we get over the mountains it is now 1 oclock, [and] we ought to send our ox teams tomorrow morning. Direct bro O[rson]. Spencer to counsel such of the American Elders to come home as can be spared. in the Summer-
Pres[iden]t. Young wants Thomas Bullock to go with the Pioneers, to keep history, & come back with the Twelve in the Fall-[A]ll shouted Aye.
Let Dr Richards attend to the Records-
Let the Trustees fit out bro: Whitehead-bring Surplus Funds-Deeds Mortagages & every thing & come to this place-
