[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] Cloudy day, wind from southeast. Dr. [Richards] rose about 10. Presidents Young and Richards with Brother Shirtleff from Punca in the office at 11. Meeting at stand in forenoon. Brothers Pratt and Benson preached in forenoon. Afternoon, Brothers Lorenzo Snow, Brigham Young, and Amasa Lyman preached (see R. C.Â's [Robert Campbell's] minutes). Wrote a letter to Major Miller requesting his attendance on 6th [of] April at conference. Sent it by Daniel Spencer, a special messenger.
Morris Lindaher brought a letter from Jane Mathers praying to be released from Edward M. Hall. T. B. [Thomas Bullock] making sketch of topographical map of road to Oregon. John Y. Green brought in a mail of 26 letters from Nauvoo, Mount Pisgah, etc. Municipal high council met in council house at 6 p.m. At midnight it lightninged, thundered, and rained, ceased a short time about half past 2. Dr. [Richards] dictated while T. B. wrote letter of recommendation for Lyman Stoddard to preach in and about Winter Quarters. Letter to Ebenezer Richardson about Sister WestÂ's property. Long letter to Mother Smith. Letter to trustees to assist William McClarry to fetch his wife. Letter to Nathaniel H. Felt instructing him in his Presidency. Continued writing until after 3 a.m. on the 5th.
