[Joseph Smith] The earliest description of the new church is in German by Rev. Diedrich Willers of Fayette, New York. He writes that "Mormonites" call themselves Die wahre Nachfolger Christi ("the True Disciples of Christ"). Concerning six Book of Mormon witnesses who had been his parishioners, Willers writes that the Whitmers "even believe in witches. Hiram Page is likewise full of superstition." (2)

[Joseph Smith] Residents of Colesville, one of the three Mormon congregations in New York state, disrupt an intended baptismal ceremony and intimidate church members. This is the first mob action against Mormons. (2)

At a dam built specifically for the in or near Colesville, Oliver Cowdery baptizes Emma Smith, Hezekiah Peck and wife Martha Long, Joseph Knight and wife Polly Peck, William Stringham, Joseph Knight Sr., Aaron Culver and wife Esther Peck, Levi Hall, Polly Knight, Julia Stringham, and Sally Colburn (wife of Newel Knight). Also baptized: William Stringham and wife Esther Knight, Anna Knight (wife of Freeborn De Mill). (1)

Colesville branch organized with 14 members. EMS 1, no. 11 (April 1833): ; (1)

Joseph is charged with disorderly conduct and taken to South Bainbridge, New York, for trial. Josiah Stowell, Jonathan Thompson refuse to give incriminating evidence. (1)

[Joseph Smith] Colesville, New York. Joseph Smith was arrested on a charge of being a disorderly person and taken to South Bainbridge, Chenago County, for trial. (3)

[Joseph Smith] Baptisms are performed in Colesville, New York, but no confirmations. A Colesville branch is started. [COLESVILLE,] (4)

[Knight, Joseph, Sr] Baptized 29 June 1830. Family formed nucleus of small branch of Church in Colesville. (5)

[Lucy Mack Smith] Samuel Harrison Smith leaves as first official missionary of the Church. (6)

[Lucy Mack Smith] Samuel goes on another mission to Livonia, New York, where Alva Beman and Joseph Noble live. (7)

[Joseph Smith] Joseph Smith is acquitted in two trials at Colesville, New York, for using a treasure-digging "peep" stone and performing an exorcism. (2)
