[Lucy Mack Smith] Joseph Jr. is arrested at Colesville after performing some Knight family baptisms and taken before the Chenango County justice for disorderly conduct on 1 July. He is defended by James Davidson and John Reid and acquitted at midnight, immediately rearrested by a constable from Broome County, taken fifteen miles to another trial, and again acquitted. (1)

[Joseph Smith] In Harmony, Pennsylvania, revelations are received, including one for Emma Smith (BC 25-27; LDS D&C 24-26; RLDS D&C 23-25). [HARMONY,] (2)

[Joseph Smith] Joseph Jr. is arrested upon warrant and appears before Justice Joel K. Noble in Colesville. [COLESVILLE,] (2)

[Lucy Mack Smith] Joseph Sr. and Don Carlos go on mission to extended Smith family. (3)

[Whitmer, John] Assisted Joseph Smith in arranging and copying revelations July 1830. (4)

Joseph is again arraigned on a misdemeanor charge. Oliver testifies "that said Smith found with the plates, from which he translated his book, two transparent stones, resembling glass, set in silver bows. That by looking through these, he was able to read in English, the reformed Egyptian characters, which were engraved on the plates." Josiah Stowell testifies that he and Joseph almost succeeded in treasure seeking, but "did not get quite to it!" Addison Austin testifies that he asked Joseph "to tell him honestly whether he could see this money or not. Smith hesitated some time, but finally replied, 'to be candid, between you and me, I cannot, any more than you or any body else; but any way to get a living.'" [Joseph Smith] Joseph Jr. is brought before Justice Joseph Chamberlain in South Bainbridge, New York. [SOUTH] (2)

[Lucy Mack Smith] Samuel Smith leaves a Book of Mormon with Rhoda Young Greene, wife of minister John P. Greene and sister of Brigham Young. (1)

[Lucy Mack Smith] Joseph Jr. and Oliver Cowdery return to Colesville to complete the confirmations but have to flee from a mob through an exhausting and frightening night in the woods. Some scholars identify the next morning as the time they received the Melchizedek priesthood from Peter, James, and John. (1)

D&C 26 (Harmony): Joseph, Oliver, and John to devote their time to studying scriptures, preaching, and supporting the church at Colesville. All things to be done by common consent. (5)

-- Jul 4, 1830-31
D&C 24 (Harmony) Joseph to stop sinning, magnify his office; go to Colesville; branch there to support him or be cursed; calling to write what Comforter gives, expound scriptures, bless the churches; Oliver to declare the gospel; do not require miracles except casting out devils, healing the sick, power over serpents, etc; dust feet against those who reject you; no purse or scrip; prune the vineyard. (5)

D&C 25 (Harmony) Emma "an elect lady," not to murmur because of things she has not seen; comfort Joseph; be a substitute scribe while Oliver is gone; be ordained to expound the scriptures and exhort the church; compile a book of hymns. (5)

John Whitmer assists Joseph arrange and copy what becomes Book of Commandments 227. Inventing, 154. (5)

[Revelations] Harmony, Pennsylvania. Doctrine and Covenants 24. Joseph to write, preach. Delivered from Satan. Stop sinning. Lord will curse those who don't accept Joseph. Calling to write, preach. Spontaneous inspiration. Full-time church service. Not physical labors. Oliver to continue preaching , promised unprecedented strength. Don't require miracles except as commanded. Curse enemies, dust feet against them. Legal opponents to be cursed. Church to support financially.
