Mormon History, Tuesday, Mar 30, 1847.

[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] North west wind, a stiff puff. Dr. Richards in office about 9. Made up a mail of five letters to go to the U.S. Post Office, and five letters to go to Savannah, St. Joseph, etc., which was delivered to Thomas Cottam. About half past 4, Presidents Young and Benson came into the office conversing with Dr. [Richards] and W. W. Phelps about the journey to the West, Sister St. JohnÂ's money from the Battalion. Phelps stated that there was an express from the army, that the Taylor army had cut up Santa AnaÂ's army.
At half past 6, Presidents Young, Richards, Benson, and Joseph Young met in the office, also Cornelius P. Lott, and Jonathan C. Wright, etc., etc. At half past 7, G. A. Smith, Hosea Stout, W. Woodruff came in. G. A. Smith reported that he had got his horses from the Omahas. T. B. [Thomas Bullock] made out the post office list and copied some. The council left the office at 8 and went to the council house to hear McCarry play on his flute for the benefit of the pioneers. The wind blowing stiff from north all evening.
Present of the Twelve, B. Young, W. Richards, H. C. Kimball, E. T. Benson, W. Woodruff, and P. Pratt. Wind moderated past 9. Joseph A. Stratton is reported to have arrived on the east side of the ferry with a company of pioneers from St. Louis. Dr. [Richards] dictated another letter to Jacob Peart, which T. B. [Thomas Bullock] copied for his signature.
