[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] Chariton River Camp of Israel. Sky clear, weather pleasant, wind southeasterly, severe frost during the last night. Health of the camp much improved and fast recovering from the severe cold occasioned by the late storms. Two of Mr. DavisÂ' traps were found by one of the brethren in shallow log supposed to be lost and brought into camp. The day was mostly spent by the brethren preparing for a move on the morrow about 2:00 p.m. O. P. Rockwell arrived from Nauvoo bringing with him 140 letters, papers, and packages, one letter from W. W. Phelps to W. Richards and council, one for President Young from Orson Hyde, one from the Mr. Mattock, editor of the Hancock Eagle.
Hunters of the first 50 brought 2 deer and 2 turkeys. President Kimball and Whitney were at the post office reading letters the most of the afternoon. President Young was engaged the forepart of the day in assisting the mechanics to repair his omnibus and large wagon. About 8 o'clock p.m., President Young was in the post office reading which he received from Sister Addison Pratt, a part of which was copied from a letter written by her husband dated Tubithai, July 2, 1845, and the remainder was her own asking counsel. Council decided that it was wisdom for her to pass the mountains with her ox teams and meet her husband on the western coasts first opportunity.
