[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] Camp Creek Encampment. Wind south. At 9 forenoon, Porter Rockwell left camp for Nauvoo with about 40 letters. President Young rode on 10 miles [1 mile] to Pleasant Grove where he found a campground, and here his horse was bit on the nose by a rattlesnake. He cut the serpent in pieces and applied it to the wound, which soon drew out the poison without much injury to the horse. First 50, third and sixth artillery, and guard, commenced arriving about noon and pitched their tents to 3 p.m. Wind south. 2 deer, 4 turkeys, and a woodchuck were brought in camp by the hunters of the first company.
