[Hosea Stout Diary] About 8 oclock Rockwood came and gave orders to have me put out a stronger guard that is eight men at a time and for me to furnish four of them out of my company so I went with him and raised 7 men and put them in under Lorenzo Clark who was to keep a sharp lookout and see that the guard done their duty untill one oclock at which time they were to be relieved. I posted them so as to encompass the whole of the first fifty including our cattle & horses which were fastened out side of the square & had one man in the square to keep all right there. He also reported that strangers were in camp near dark and that President Young wanted search made to see if they had put up in camp
After guard was posted we went and searched every tent. President Young was not satisfied with the arraingements of the guard last night and had ordered it thus. After the above regulations was done I went into my tent and wrote into my journal till one oclock as I was going to relieve the guard at that time and relieved but once tonight. It was a cold cloudy night and a boisterous East wind blowing which seemed as though it would blow the tent down.At one I relieved and put the guard for the latter part of the night under Levi Stewart
