Mormon History, Apr 1, 1846

[Hosea Stout Diary] Wednesday April 1st 1846. This morning was clear warm & pleasant[.] Orders came earley for the camp to move and we were preparing accordingly. Some of the men went out & found a bee tree & cut it but got but little honey.Br Samuel Thomas was at my tent sick & I had him to move.At about one we started. The road was very much settled but got soft in some places.Several waggons broke down but none of mine.
We went to Shoal Creek at the place we held the council on the 27th and encamped[.] It was on the edge of the prairie. The first 50 encamped in a hollow square but was laid out too little for my company to camp in so I encamped close by.There was none but the first 50 & Band moved to day.I arrainged it with Rockwood for each company to do the guarding one night in succession & my two companies each one night would have to do duty one night each week. The first company was to stand guard on Sunday This was a great relief to my men for they would now have to do duty only two nights in a week whereas they had it to do every night before
