[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 22d + Sunday A child about 10 year of Age A Daughter of Mr Brown died on board last night And it is expected the corps will be buried in the sea this Afternoon.
The sea is rough this morning. We have A Northerly wind. We cannot run within several points of our Course.
At half past 11 oclok the corps was put in a wooden box similar to A coffin boared with holes to fill with water. The coffin had stones in the foot of it to sink it. It was then slid into the sea from a board feet foremost at a signal from the Captain but it did not sink but we saw it swiming near half a mile from the Ship. The parents of the Child was catholic And there was no service performed over it by request of her parents.
