[Hosea Stout Diary] July the 3 1845 Thursday. This morning I went down on the flat an at 9 oclock met the Lodge and then went on the Hill to the Shoe Shop and at 2 oclock met in Council at the Hall with President B. Young & G. A. Smith and the officers of the Lodge and the officers of Helm Lodge relative to our two Lodges joining together it was not decided then.At 4 oclock the Lodge met again being a Regular Communication and there the matter of the Lodges were discussed and refered to Scovil Roundy & my-self to Settleafterwards I met the police & spoke at considerable length to them on the Subject & necessity of their keeping their selves out of all bad company and maintaining an upright & dignified course before the people after which I went to B. Youngs and Saw him to get council on Some matters and Br Lee coming I Staid with him a while and after ward we got in conversation with B. Young on the doctrine of Christs mission in the world and at 11- oclock I came home.
