City of Joseph July 12th 1845 A blessing by Wm Smith Patriarch on the head of Samuel Smith son of Daniel & Sibyl born Bennington Co Vermont 11 July 1785
Beloved brother I lay my hands upon your head to seal upon you a blessing that is purely Patriarchal, according to the holy order of God, handed down by Prophets & Patriarchs from days of old, because thou art of their lineage, of the household of faith, of the seed of Abraham and of the tribe of Joseph, and the blood of the Royal seed runs in thy veins according to the purposes of God, and thy glory shall not fail, & thy Salvation is sure for the Lord will have mercy upon thee, and all the Sins of thy former life will be forgiven, for the deeds of charity thou has done and the liberality of thy Soul, and the love thou hast had for the cause of Zion, and the goodly desires thou hast had to prosper, & see her built up i
n the land, thy name shall be great in the midst of the house of Israel & for all the troubles & toils thou hast had
for thou hast went through deep affliction, & suffered much persecution & made many sacrifices for the Salvation of the Church, & thine own household and for all this thou shalt be rewarded, & none shall take thy crown or place, but in Zion thou shalt yet have an inheritance, and thy children shall gather round thee, and thou shalt be called blessed in all thy household, and in judgement and mercy shalt thou rule and preside over them for thou art of that stock to whom belongs the Holy Priesthood, the blessings and powers of the same are upon thy head and shall continue upon the he[a]ds of thy posterity and with that number that shall come up thro great tribulation, thy name shall be written &, thou shalt stand on mount Zion with the multitude of all the nations that shall be gathered in the day of God[']s visitation,
then shalt thou see the glor
y of Zion and the blessings of Almighty God shall rest upon thy head thy days shall be lengthened out, and the days of thy greatest troubles are past thy last days shall be thy best days, and thou shalt be delivered from the hands of thine enemies and them that seek to ensnare thee, for the wisdom of God shall be given unto thee and by his Spirit shalt thou be guided and after many days thou shalt return to Zion again and thy joy shall be full and altho enemies may rage and the devil may seek to overthrow thee yet thy Salvation shall be made complete & thy inheritance sure with thy family around thee, for I seal thee up to eternal life even a Salvation that is immortal & shall never end by the authority of the holy Priesthood in the name of Jesus christ A[me]n
