[Hosea Stout Diary] Saturday Sep 30th 1848. We were up earley & came home with our wood but learned at the same time that one load was sufficient for one day & did not go back but went to a meeting of the High council.
A petition was presented requesting leave to cut all the timber both green & dry within 30 miles of this place and bring it in this winter which after some opposition passed. It had hitherto been unlawful to cut any green timber. Also decided to pay tithing. A plan to form in a Big Field also commenced. After Council I went to the "Land office" and had my city Lot set off to me which was in the North East of the City, which was
Block 73, Lot 4.
