Mormon History, Jan 24, 1848

[Hosea Stout Diary] Mond Jan 24th 1848. Today the Council met at ten a.m. on Woolleys casewe had a long [session] which nearley all day. The case had created much excitement & the house was crouded.
The charge was fully and abundantly sustained. President Harris decided that he should be fined one hundred dollars which was followed by a general pause in which President Young proposed to me to withdraw the charge which I did after a long speech on the object and duty of a police & the reasons for bringing it up &c[.] Presidents Young & Kimball also spoke on the subject
The trial was the cause of much good as the people were enlightened on the object & intention of a police. The dark cloud of dissatisfied and murmuring feeling was for the time dispelled.
