[Hosea Stout Diary] Sat Feb. 5th 1848. Around as usual & at one oclock went to Council[.] John Pack had prefered a charge against Bp Carns for taking his whiskey which after much ado and argument it was laid aside as he had went according to law
I here spoke in favor of sustaining the law and bore down on those who sold spiriteous liquors very hard.
In the evening I & several of the police met at E. Gardners with H. S. Eldrege to settle or rather explain to him the reason that the police did not want him for a Collector, which was done I believe to the satisfaction of all parties. I came home about Eleven oclock P. M.
