Mormon History, May 7, 1847

[Hosea Stout Diary] Friday May 7th 1847. Dull cloudy weather[.] North wind[.] Omahas made another breach on the cattl driving off some seven or 8 oxen. About 20 men went in pursuit brought in some of the beef. Went around as usual & took Wilber J. Earl into the police
The police is running very low hard to keep up a guard. The spirits of the people is dull about their own protection and safety & seem unwilling to do anything to keep up the guard.
About ten oclock at night I got word that Omahas were on the bottom near town. Called on the Bishops to raise men to guard the South of town against their approach.
