Kirtland, Ohio. Joseph Smith prayed concerning his brother Samuel Smiths sick wife and received a promise from the Lord that she would be delivered of a living child, and be spared. (3)
[Lucy Mack Smith] Samuel's wife, Mary Bailey Smith, almost dies giving birth to Susanna Bailey Smith, their first child. Frederick G. Williams helps her. Joseph prays. (2)

William Smith angrily criticised Joseph Smith, Jr. during a Kirtland High Council meeting -- a fist-fight between the two brothers was narrowly averted, by the intervention of their father. (4)

Joseph testifies before the high council in behalf of a brother who is accused of beating and whipping his daughter. In the second session, Joseph and his brother William, get into a furious argument over whether their mother should testify. (1)
Warren Parrish begins writing for Joseph where Willard Richards leaves off in the Prophet's history. (1)
Warren Parrish becomes Joseph Smith's scribe for $15 per month [per Joseph Smith]. (5)
William Smith quarrels with Joseph Smith [per Joseph Smith]. (5)
[Lucy Mack Smith] Joseph Jr. and William disagree over the case of the Elliots whipping their fifteen-year-old daughter; Joseph defends the parents. When Lucy attempts to testify, Joseph objects because the matter is settled. William accuses him of doubting their mother's testimony, and the two brothers almost come to blows before Joseph Sr. and Lucy intervene. (2)
