Mormon History, Aug 2, 1846

At 5 m to 3 PM council met in Capt Rockwoods tent Presant of the 12 B Young Kimble Woodruff O Pratt A Lyman & Richard of the council of (YTFIF) Cutler Cahoon Rockwood Grant & Lee & 5 others report that some sharp words passed between Bro Rockwood & John Scott'while Capt Rockwood was acting in an official capacity Testimony on both sides was heard Decided that Capt Scott receive written orders to be and appear on the camp ground between Co no. 1 & 2 by 6
PM on the morrow with all the ordinances & Field Pieces under his command & that station occupy until further orders Pres Young said that he has at sundries times requested Capt Scott to bring those cannons up to Head Quarters'but their order has never been adhered too; he has always manifested a disposition to do as he pleased & kept off to himself now to prove him we will send for him to bring them between this & tomorrw eve'Come Bro J D Lee write the order Bro Matthews who had just arrived in camp from St Joseph'reported that the Brethren (volunteers) were within 30 miles of Fort Leavenworth all in good spirits The feeling of the inhabitants warm & favorable toward us Mormon credit good for horses and for any thing called for' their Colonel ready to indorse with them for any amount Bro John Holman reported that 6 tier[s] of the bridge had been built at Elk Horn that they are short of help Council decided he return and finish the piers'thence proceed up Mo to our contemplated wintering quarters to assist in saving hay for our cattle'as the bridge can be finished afterwards A letter was written by W Richards the clerk in behalf of the council to Col Kane at Elk Horn Omaha Nation informing him of our present designs with reference to stopping this side of the Mountains (see copy on file) Mother Young Pre s Lady treated the council with a pitcher of excellent wine & asked their blessing in return which was cheerfully granted after chatting on various subjects council broke up at about 7 eve.
