Ezra Booth letter #7 published: Edward Partridge is an honest man, but he serves at Joseph's pleasure and cannot last long. Implores Edward to leave the church. Recounts their trip to Missouri-Joseph's false prophecy of a large church built up there by Oliver Cowdery, his hot temper, overbearance, use of revelations to silence critics, Sidney's exaggerations. [Joseph Smith] A revelation is received dealing with church finances: "He who is appointed to administer spiritual things, the same is worthy of his hire," which becomes the doctrinal basis for financial support to Joseph Smith and later authorities. (2)

Oliver Cowdery and John Whitmer sent to Independence, MO with the revelations, to be published by William W. Phelps (Book of Commandments). (3)

[Whitmer, John] Appointed to accompany Oliver Cowdery to Jackson County, Missouri, with revelations for printing November 1831. (4)

[Whitmer, Peter, Jr] Attended conferences in Hiram, Ohio, November 1831; there appointed to have inheritance in Zion for assisting Joseph Smith in bringing forth sacred writings, particularly revelations. (4)

D&C 71 (Hiram): time to [stop work on Bible revisions and] proclaim the gospel, expound the mysteries, "confound your enemies [Ezra Booth]." MS 14, no. 8 (Apr. 15, 1852): 114. (1)

[Joseph Smith] Hiram, Ohio. Joseph Smith received Doctrine & Covenants 71, a revelation in which the Lord promised to confound the enemies of Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon as they proclaimed the gospel. (5)

[Revelations] Hiram, Ohio. Doctrine and Covenants 71. Joseph and Sidney are to teach the mysteries from the scriptures. Shame adversaries in public and in private. Prepare for more revelations and commandments. (6)

Joseph and Sidney arrive in Kirtland. MS 14, no. 8 (Apr. 15, 1852): 114. (1)

[Joseph Smith] Kirtland, Ohio. Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon traveled from Hiram, Ohio, to Kirtland in order to follow the instructions in Doctrine & Covenants 71, a revelation about their duty to proclaim the gospel. (5)

[Joseph Smith] Joseph receives a revelation calling him and Sidney Rigdon on missions. They leave Kirtland to start their mission in Southern Ohio. (7)

[Lucy Mack Smith] Sidney Rigdon and Joseph Jr. preach throughout Ohio until 10 January 1832 to counteract Ezra Booth's anti-Mormon articles. (8)

-- Dec 4, 1831
Kirtland. D&C 72 (Kirtland): Newel K. Whitney is called as Kirtland's bishop: keep the Lord's storehouse; record all transactions for bishop in Zion; provide for literary stewards. Those going to Zion must take certificate of worthiness. (1)
