[Apostle Willard Richards Journal] Winter Quarters. Dr. [Richards] sick in bed till about 1 p.m. when he was called up by President Young to attend a council at Elder Kimball's. Present of the Twelve: B. Young, H. C. Kimball, O. Pratt, W. Richards, G. A. Smith, W. Woodruff, A. Lyman, [and] E. T. Benson at William Kimball's house. After reading the names of Young and KimballÂ's companies for emigration and much conversation, and appointing Father Isaac Morley as the first president of the First Company, and his counselors, Reynolds Cahoon and John Young, Brother Harrison Burgess, direct from Nauvoo, came into the council with a mail of [?].
Sarah, wife of Willard Richards, was delivered of a son named Willard Brigham at 30 minutes after 3.
About 4 p.m., Harrison Burgess arrived from Nauvoo with a mai1 of 25 letters and packages. Miscellaneous. Thirty-four letters from Nauvoo post office paid and 11 packages of newspapers and 26 extra letters, including packages. His brother came in with him. The remainder of the council was occupied in opening the mail and reading the news. A letter from the trustees in Nauvoo of December 6, and seven numbers of The Millennial Star, etc., were read.
