Present[: Brigham] Young, [Heber C.] Kimball, [Willard] Richards, [Orson] Hyde, [Orson] Pratt, [Wilford] Woodruff, [George A.] Smith, Levi Richards, W[illia]m. Kay, John Kay, Dr. Sprague, T[homas]. B[ullock]. & R[eynolds]. C[ahoon]. Conversation about John P. Barnard's trial of last evening'-with bro: Clark. A new fashioned musket was introduced, & commented on.'- There is a beautiful place on the Baiyou'-a large Co[mpany]. from Ohio are coming there.'- [T]he bre[thre]n ought to settle on it.'-El[der] Hyde told the man the Mormons had settled on it.'- B. Y.[:] If I had been staying here'-I sho[ul]d. have been up there 6 weeks ago'-[for] it is a splendid place.'-[T]here is 10 mile[s] square solid timber.'-[T]hat is the county seat for the North Co[unty].'-[S]uppose you (Hyde) & George take your teams & go up [there],'-[and B]ro Woodruff'-suppose you take your family up there. W. W. queried.'- O. H.[:] Cant you get a Co[mpany]. from W[inter]. Q[uarters?]. B. Y.[:] If you will give me a good Wagon & 2 yoke of oxen'-Ill put a colony on there in 3 weeks.'-I'll go & put a Co[mpany]. right down there'-[for] we can get a Co[mpany]. up there in a week or 10 days. Are the bre[thre]n over there'-going to let our good mills go to pot & not give us a dollar for it[?]'-[T]]he machinery is worth [$]600. O. H.[:] I expect you could raise your teams at Confs. [J]ust haul the men right up at Conf: & see what they will do.'- Conversation about the Potawatomie Indians'- B. Y.[:] There is a little bus[iness]: about Fa[the]r. Cutler'-to come bef[ore]: the meeting.'- 212 O. H.[:] That spot on the Baiyou is the best spot on the West.'-[B]ro Jordon wants 500 families sent up there.'- B. Y.[:] I wish to the Lord you would go up there.'-I told the bre[thre]n to go up there. G. A. S.[:] I wanted B[rother]. Clapp to go up there, but he only went to the mouth of the Baiyou.'- O. H.[:] We want 1/2 a doz[en] good men to go preaching thro the Pot[awatomie]: Coun[try]. B. Y.[:] Theres Clapp, W[illia]m. Draper, [and] L[uman], Calkins'-good men for preaching.'- The paper from Cha[rle]s. Dana (the Delaware) was read.'-[T]hey are determined they will have the Mormons in their midst.'-[T]hey are 15 miles West of Independence.'- B. Y.[:] What shall we write[?]'- H. C. K[:] I motion that they go ahead. W.R.[:] I second the motion.'- B. Y.[:] Evert [?] & King [?] [can] go in for hiring just who they please. (Jos[eph] Young came in.) Cutler [?] has been there, [and] he has got his verbal orders what to do. I dont like to put out a piece of writing.'- G. A. S.[:] They have passed a law not to fence ag[ain]st. hogs.'-A. [?] Downs, went & bot. 100 hogs & said if you shoot my hogs, I [will] shoot the person who said he wo[ul]d. shoot them'- B. Y.[:] I sa[y] just fill the country with hogs, sheep, cattle, Beeves & every thing.'- O. H.[:] Could not bro Woodruff be of as much good in taking a Settl[emen]t. up from here, as anything else[?]'- B. Y.[:] I am perfectly willing. W. W.[:] I sho[ul]d. prefer [to] go preaching, than farming.'- B. Y.[:] I want preachers to go & roll the p[eo]pl[e] toge[the]r.'-[T]he S[ain]t[s]. wo[ul]d. all be glad to get out of the wa[y] of the world.'-[W]hen we stop preaching we have no increase,'-& if we dont inc[rease]. there is an end of the K[ingdom].'-[T]he bless[in]g. on Abra[ha]m was [that] he sho[ul]d. inc[rease],'-& to his inc[rease]. there sho[ul]d. be no end.'- H. C. K.[:] I can start 1/2 a doz[en] tomorrow.'- B. Y.[:] Call all the men toge[the]r.'-[C]all for Volunteers'-& go up to that timber.'- J. Y.[:] I go for one'-if I dont go to the mountains.'- B. Y. [said he w]ants to fill up the mountains.'- Conversation about Theodore Curtis being cut off'-the doings in St. Louis as brot. up by Lewis Robins.'- 20 min past 9 [dismissed].
