[Hosea Stout Diary] Tuesday Sept 28th 1847. Sent 9 men out on guard and I staid in. At two oclock the Council and police met again to prosecute the investigation of D. Russells case. He had and yed does deny every assertion which we make and puts us to the proof of it which we have done to the perfect satisfaction of all present
To day matters assumed quite a different attitude and he again put us to prove some unbecoming things between him and a Sister Hart which we proved by her & his own wife & family which greatly served to render both him & her perfectly rediculous in the opinion of all present.
The subject of making some kind of a draw on the brethren residing on the East side of the river to assist the people here to pay the debt due the police was introduced to day in the Council by myself which was favorably recieved and laid over for further investigation after which the council adjourned to meet again on Russells case as we were not yet done with him.
