[Hosea Stout Diary] Tuesday June 1st 1847. To day I & G. W. Langley went to Bel-vue to report Prest A. Cutlers wishes to young Elk as agreed on the 24 inst
We found him in Town & he was pleased with what was said for Cutler received his offers as in good faith & had sent accordingly & proposed for them to send for the presents wanted before. Young Elk declined coming now as he was going to start tomorrow with a war party against one Band of the Pawnees but said he would come when he returned home again. We came home and on our way killed a Badger an animal much resembling a Raccoon but heavier & shorter legged slow to run & very strong
I[t] recieved one shot in the vitals & two in the head before it was killed from a six shooter.
