Mormons settle in Iowa â•along the Missouri River, creating a town called Kanesville (present-day Council Bluffs) on the eastern shore, and a larger town, Winter Quarters (North Omaha) on the bluff above the west bank. These areas â•would serve as a major point of departure for west bound Mormon emigrants for several years to come.
