[Lucy Mack Smith] Emma is sealed to Joseph and admitted to the prayer circle. She is endowed sometime before autumn. (2)[Polygamy] Joseph and Emma Smith are the first couple "sealed" in marriage for eternity. During the previous month, he had married as polygamous wives seventeen-year-old Lucy Walker, sixteen-year-old Flora Ann Woodworth, and fourteen-year-old Helen Mar Kimball who later testified that he had sexual relations with them. "thou art called to go to the Isles of the sea and ... to open the door of salvation in connection with your brethren." [A general blessing of prosperity, spiritual blessings [healing the sick, casting out devils] with exhortation to be faithful — no mention of Lamanites.] (5)

[William Clayton Journal] At Brother Kimballs who was blessing his children, he also blessed W[illia]m Heber Clayton. At 2 I met with the wardens of the lodge. P.M. at home writing papers on settlement with the lodge. We are occupying our new house for which I feel thankful. (6)

[Anointed Quorum] 9 a.m. prayer circle of same men at Smith's old home, "when Joseph instructed us further in principles pertaining to the holy Priesthood" (HG, MHBY). Joseph Smith "sealed" for time and eternity the following couples: Hyrum Smith and his deceased wifeJerusha Barden Smith (by proxy), Hyrum Smith and his present wife Mary Fielding Smith. Hyrum Smith sealed Brigham Young and his deceased wife Miriam Works Young (by proxy), Brigham Young and his present wife Mary Ann Angel Young, Willard and Jennetta Richards, and Mercy Rachel Fielding Thompson and her deceased husband Robert B. Thompson (by proxy). (JS-F, EHAT, 63, MAQ, MRFT claimed that Newel K. Whitney and wife Elizabeth Ann were also sealed on this occasion). (7)

[Joseph Smith Diary] Monday, May 29th 1843 9 A.M. Met pursuant to adjournment. Hyrum, Brigham, Willard, and Sis[ter] Thompson (were married) and Heber and Newel K. [Whitney] [were] present. Also Joseph and James Adams. Singing and prayer by Elder Brigham Young. Conversation and instruction &c. teaching concerning the things of God. Had a pleasant interview.
Woodworth complaint: People vs James Thompson for assau[l]t [in] /Mayor's/ Court [at] 2 P.M. Fines Thompson $300. Gave instructions to have the account of Lawrence estate made out. Sister from Quincy visiting them. Pleasant but cool after the rain as it has been every rain this season. James Adams gave a deed of some 11 or 12 quarter Sections of land on the prairie to trustee in trust.
6 P.M. the Twelve [Apostles] met and sent a mission to Wisconsin and counselled the Philadelphia Branch to come to Nauvoo. See minutes /of the/ 12. [rest of the page blank] {page 228) (9)

[William Clayton Journal] This A.M. President Joseph told me that he felt as though I was not treating him exactly right and asked if I had used any familiarity with E[mma]. I told him by no means and explained to his satisfaction. At the store office. (6)

[Patriarchal Blessings] Thomas Smith. (Given by John Halbiston {Holliston?}, Manchester, England.)
"Dear Brother: I lay my hands upon thy head in the name of Jesus Christ & by the Authority of the Holy Priesthood & pronounce the blessings of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Inasmuch as thou hast obeyed the gospel in the holy ordinance of Baptism & thereby entered into the new & everlasting Covenant, all the blessings of the Gospel of the grace of God are secured to thee by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ & the precious promises are available by faith in him. Thou hast received a new principle of life which if thou abide in his as thou hast been planted shall increase with the increase of God & Now thou art engaging afresh in solemn covenant with God to walk closer with Him & light & joy in the Holy Ghost shall abound. Knowledge and understanding & great wisdom shall be given thee. Words of wisdom shall dwell upon thy lips on all occasions & be a builder up of the Saints in righteousness, being furnished out of the Lord's treasure with things new & old & stand in the
Holy Priesthood & minister for ever & ever. The Lord will keep thee faithfull in thy high calling & thou shalt carry the gospel to other nations & preach in other tongues & gather the tribes of Israel & Judah & be mighty in word & deed & be an honored instrument in the Lords hand in accomplishing his great designs & bring many to the knowledge of the truth as it is in Jesus Christ. The mystery of redemption shall be revealed unto thee in plainness & thou shalt see the propheses accomplished. Thou shall go to Zion & have an inheritance, Land, corn, wine & oil, flocks & herds & vineyards & olive yards & worship in the Temple of the Lord in the beauty of holiness & in the communion of Saints, and witness mighty miracles, signs & wonders wrought by the power of God in the priesthood in the name of Jesus Christ & be delighted in the presance & join in holy services of the ancient worthier prophets & Apostles who shall come forth in the first resurrection with all the blessed wash
ed throng & rejoice to meet the Lord in the air when He shall come to be admired of his Saints with the heavenly hosts, angels & spirits of the just men made perfect, & thou shalt sit down with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob in the kingdom of God & live in the reign of righteousness. Thou are of the blood of Ephriam.
