[Joseph Smith Diary] Sunday, April 9th 10:25 A.M. Meeting opened by singing /"Spirit of God &c."/ at Temple stand. Prayer by William Smith. Singing. Joseph remarked that some might have expected him to preach but his heart and lungs would not admit. Joshua Grant will occupy the stand awhile followed by Amasa Lyman. (1)

[Joseph Smith] A special conference is called in Nauvoo in which 115 elders are called on missions and given instructions by the Twelve. (3)

[Joseph Smith Diary] Monday, April 10th 1843 Elders Conference commenced at the Temple at 10 o'clock A.M. (1)

[Lucy Mack Smith] One hundred fifteen missionaries are called at a special conference. (4)

Robert D Foster: Appointed to take mission with Jonathan Allen to Tioga County, New York, 10 April 1843. (5)

About one hundred and fifteen Elders were called on missions to different States, at a special conference held at Nauvoo. (6)

[Joseph Smith Diary] Tuesday, April 11th 1843 Called at office [at] 11 A.M. and 1 P.M. to give some instructions to have an order Made out for W[illiam] W. Phelp[s] to get a note out of the Bank at St. Louis and started after W[illia]m Clayton to find the date of the note. Some rain and wind. Conference adjourned till tomorrow [at] 10 A.M. (1)

Nauvoo, Illinois. Joseph Smith was the first on board the steamer Maid of Iowa to welcome 240 members from England, as well as Parley P. Pratt and his family. (7)

[Joseph Smith Diary] Wednesday, April 12th 1843 9 A.M. In conversation with Mr. Gillet concerning [the] Hotchkiss purchase. Mr. Jackson present gave a certificate (written by Elder Hyde) to W[illia]m Weeks to carry out the designs and Architecture of the Temple in Nauvoo.
Conference of Elders commenced at 10 [A.M.] and closed at 12:20 having ordained about 22 Elders and appointed about 118 to different Missions in U[nited] S[tates] and Canida and restored Almon Babbitt to fellowship &c., &c. See Minutes of the Quorum of the Twelve [Apostles].
Before the Conference closed the Steamer Amarenth appeared in sight of the Temple coming up the River and about noon landed her passengers at the wharf opposite the old Post office building. About 240 of the Saints from England in charge of Elder Lorenzo Snow who has been preaching in England 2 or 3 years. Joseph and Emma were present and a large company of the brethren and sister[s] ready to greet their friends on their arrival.
/Notice was given at Close of the conference for the emigrants to meet at the stand tomorrow morning [at] 10 to hear instructions./ After unloading /Saints/ the Amarenth proceeded up the river. This is the first boat up this season. Bro[ther] Snow and Co[mpany] left Liverpool in January.
About 5 P.M. The Steamer "Maid of Iowa" hauled up at the Nauvoo House Landing and discharged about 200 Saints In charge of Elders P[arley] P. Pratt and Levi Richards. These had been detained at St. Louis, Alton, &c. through the Winter, having come out of Liverpool in the fall. Capt[ain] Jones of the "Maid of Iowa" was baptized a few weeks since. Joseph was present at the landing and the first to board the steamer and appeared Melted in tenderness when he met Sister Pratt (who had been to England with Parley) and her little daughter only 3 or 4 days old. The "Maid /of Iowa"/ was 11 days coming from St. Louis detained by ice &c.
Joseph was very busy the P.M. and coming among the brethren shaking hands and conversing freely till about 9 o'clock and rejoiced to meet so many of the Saints and in such good health and fine spirits equal to any that had ever come in Nauvoo. (1)
