Joseph Smith is raised to the office of Fellow Craft Mason and then to Master Mason one day after being initiated into the Nauvoo Masonic Lodge as an Entered Apprentice Mason. He writes in his journal: "I was with the Masonic Lodge and rose to the sublime degree." (1)

[Anointed Quorum] Smith formally organized the Female Relief Society in the Masonic "Lodge Room" of his Red Brick Store, and he referred to the Society's president as "the Elect Lady," a phrase from the New Testament, from an 1830 revelation, and from an unconventional degree for women recognized by French Masonry since 1774 (HC, NRS, MWH). (4)

Relief Society is organized; Emma chosen as president. (5)

Joseph Smith organized the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo, with Emma Smith, Sarah M. Cleveland and Elizabeth Ann Whitney as its presidency, to look after the poor and sick. (6)

Oliver Olney disfellowshipped for setting himself up as a prophet. (7)

Nauvoo, Illinois. Joseph Smith organized the Relief Society of Nauvoo, with Emma Smith, his wife, as the president. (8)

[Joseph Smith] Female Relief Society of Nauvoo organized. (9)

[Lucy Mack Smith] The all-female Relief Society is organized with eighteen women. Emma is appointed president with counselors Elizabeth Ann Whitney and Sarah M. Cleveland, and with Eliza R. Snow as secretary. Membership reaches 1,142 by September 1842. (10)

[Nauvoo] The Relief Society is organized on the second floor of Joseph Smith's Red Brick Store on Water Street. The sisters then joined with the bishops in helping the poor and sick within the city. (11)

Wilford Woodruff records: "Spent the day in the printing Office. WE struck off about 100 No of the 10 No 3 vol of Times & Seasons which contained the portion of the Book of Abraham that gave his account of Kolob, Oliblish, God siting upon his Throne The Earth, other planets & many great & glorious things as revealed to Abraham through the power of the priesthood." (1)
