D&C 78 (Hiram): Joseph, Sidney, and Newel to covenant with one another on behalf of the United Firm, and counsel with Saints in Zion. (2)
[Revelations] Kirtland, Ohio. Doctrine and Covenants 78. Newel K. Whitney version: The Lord announces to the brethren of the High Priesthood that it is time to merge the Literary and Mercantile Firms of Kirtland and Zion (later known as the United Firm, or the United Order). It is to promote the interests of the church and make it possible for all to be equal in heavenly and earthly things. Newel, Joseph, and Sidney are to consult with the brethren in Zion. They are to covenant with each other , and whoever breaks the covenant will lose his standing in the church and be turned over to Satan until the day of redemption. The riches of eternity and a hundred times the wealth of this world are promised. Jesus will come with the church of the firstborn and take members up in the cloud and reward all according to their deeds.
Kirtland Revelations Book amends commandment equating a bond with an everlasting covenant or allowing a bond instead of an everlasting covenant.
In 1835 D&C the Lord addresses Enoch. The Lord's storehouse is to be organized for the poor. (The Literary and Mercantile Firms are not mentioned. ) Zion is the city of Enoch. The Holy One of Zion has established Adam-ondi-Ahman and appointed Michael, their prince, elevated him to a high station, given him the keys of salvation under the direction of the Holy One who is without beginning of days or end of life. The Redeemer is the Son Ahman. This church is the church of the first born.
Subsequent changes: Omission of reference to the city of Enoch. Thus, one of the principal subjects of the revelation, the United Firm, gives way to the Lord's storehouse for the city of Enoch, then to the Lord's storehouse wherever it is.
