[Brigham Young Sermon] I am more satisfied that the people will do it by tithing, and be satisfied - there are scores of men and women who would rather pay their tithing from this time forth and forever and will lie down and sleep as sweet again because they have paid their tithing - they then can say 1/10 of their time is set apart for the service of the Lord and said brothers and sisters is it your feelings to pay tithing - signify it by raising the right hand (all up) - and I can tell them the word of the Lord is that you build the house by tithing. But it you choose to build it any other way the Lord will overlook your weaknesses. We don't ask them to pay property tithing, they have paid pretty well over the sage plains already the first thing for the temple is that a wall will be built around the temple block and no man to go in without a pass. Another item is I am going in for a big field. We want the names said to Brother Bullock tomorrow morning so as to make a dividend and lay it out immediately so as to prepare for sowing wheat - the fence to be made another three feet. To those who have come in this season - please take care of your cattle - drive them off far enough or tie them so that they break their necks, and not get away - you who have crops watch your crops and then you may save your crops - gather it together - also wheat thrash it out as fast as possible and get the buck wheat out of the way - that we may have a little milk - your cattle have eat up the feed - and probably 100 of horses mules and oxen have been of no particular service and yet they have been kept here to eat up all - favor us and you too - we have neither meat, mills, or butter - our cows nearly dry. To those who have come in - I've lent ox bows, yokes, clevises, oxen, steers, cows, some I got, some not - yesterday I found a yoke of steers the other side of Jordan yoked up - I wish you to bring them to me - and to every man his property. -- Salt Lake City [Thomas Bullock Minutes, LJA; Thomas Bullock—LDS Church Reporter, 1844-56.C, Archives, Church History Library, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah.; GCM, Archives, Church History Library, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah..; Leonard J.
