[Hosea Stout Diary] At 7 oclock I went to council at Daniel Cahoons house. There was not much up at this council very interesting except the case of Bishop Miller[.] Some of his men was here to enquire into the reason why they could not be set over on credit[.] This brought up the subject & it appeared that Miller had run reckless as usual down to Mr Sarpees contrary to the council refered to on Sunday night & had sent word back for his teams to come on without paying for their ferriage[.] This was the testimony of W. Richards[.] He also said that he had ran directly contrary to council in every particular.
After the council had adjourned Brigham appeared at the door and took up the subject. He had been without and heard all that was said[.] He handled the case very ruff.He said that Miller & Emmett had a delusive spirit and any one that would follow them would go to hell &c[.] That they would sacrifice this people to aggrandize themselves or to get power. That he was now trying to go and raise the price of grain which would be for us to pay after he was gone & that he would not clean up after him any longer. He said that they would yet apostatize. He said many more things on the subject but this will suffice at this time.
