[Hosea Stout Diary] Thursday Nov. 13th 1845. Came home this morning at about three oclock and wrote in my journal untill day and after breakfast went to the Hall and then to the uper Steam mill to see and assist in drawing axletree timber to the Hall & then returned to the Hall.About noon Br Peter Hawes came to the Hall to see me about the sawing of our waggon timber at the lower steam mill for there was a difficulty between his hands and mine in relation to the dividing the lumber which had amounted to some hard feelings So after going to Col John Scotts & taking dinner I went with Br Hawes to his mill and had the matter arrainged satisfactory on both sidesit only was a misunderstanding.I then returned with him and met the police about sun set.My brother A. J. Stout told me there that Elder Heber C. Kimball & the Twelve was not satisfied with the proceedings of the different companies who were doing business on a common stock principal which was not right.I then went home a
little after dark.To
night the moon was allmost totally eclipsed on her northern limbs about dusk it was a beautiful sight and it spread a dark and dismal gloom over the bright and clear night & seemed to shroud all nature in deep mourning.I never felt such a desolate sensation in my life at the changes of nature.
