[Joseph Smith] Joseph contributes over three dozen volumes of personal books to the Nauvoo Library and Literary Institute (a group of at least 74 members organized earlier in the month). [Joseph Smith Diary] Wednesday, January 31st At home. [several lines left blank] 11 o'clock A.M. called at the office. Told Ben[jami]n Winchester to go to Warsaw and preach the first principles of the Gospel &c. Get some Lexicons and returned home. [several lines left blank]

Prayer meeting at B[righam] Young's. Geo[rge] A. Smith and wife present [and anointed to the fullness of the priesthood]. /Geo[rge] A. Smith and wife Bathsheba W. Bigler received their Second Anointing which was administered by Brigham Young, Pres[iden]t of the Twelve [Apostles]/ (3)

The endowed quorum meets for prayer and sealing ordinance work. (4)

"Sister I lay my hands upon thy head by authority of the Holy Priesthood to seal a Fathers blessing upon thee, because thou hast no Father to bless thee Thou art a Daughter of Abraham, through the loins of Manassah and a lawful heir to the Priesthood in common with thy companion and thou shalt redeem thy dead friends and bring them up in the first Reserection with thy Companion and children and if thou desirest thou shalt be sealed to thy companion for all Eternity, he shall be endowed with the power of the Priesthood to posess thee in Eternity. Thou art a Mother in Israil and thy name shall be had in everlasting rememberance, because of the power that shall be made manifest among thy desendants thou shalt live untill thou art sattisfied with life, have all thy desires.

thy greatest reward shall not be in this world, yet thou shalt enjoy all the Blessings of the Priesthood, thou shalt be happy with thy children and thy grandchildren and thy ofspring shall be numerous

thou shalt have an inheritance with thy Breathren in Zion, and be entitled to all the blessings that Jacob pronounced upon the head of Ephrim, be faithful dear sister and thou shalt enjoy all these blessings for I seal them upon thy head in the name of Jesus Christ and I seal thee up unto Eternal life Amen." Joseph Smith nominated by the 12 Apostles to run for President. (6)

Joseph Smith becomes a candidate for President of the United States. (7)

[Heber C. Kimball] January 1844. My wife Vilate and menny feemales was recieved in to the Holy Order, and was washed and inointed [anointed] by Emma. (8)

Times and Season prints notice that "Hiram Brown" was cut off from the Church for preaching polygamy. (6)

Joseph and Hyrum Smith publicly announce excommunication of an elder for teaching polygamy in Michigan: "As we have lately been credibly informed that an elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by the name of Hiram Brown, has been preaching polygamy and other false and corrupt doctrines in the county of Lapeer, state of Michigan, this is to notify him and the church in general that he has been cut of from the church for his iniquity." Heber C. Kimball records in his journal, -My self and wife Vilate was announted Preast and Preastest [Priestess] unto our God under the Hands of B[righam]. Young and by the voys [voice] of the Holy Order.- (9)

[Anointed Quorum] Prayer circle meeting at Brigham Young's house, second anointing for William and Sally Phelps . (10)

[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 2d I spent the day to work on my house. I met with the quorum for Prayer &c at Elders Youngs. {WW} {SP} Br & Sister Wm. W. Phelps attended with us. Br Phelps spoke Concerning his appointment as a Lawyier in Israel. /Brother & Sister Wm. W Phelps Received their 2d Anointing & sealing. / (11)

The first known polygamous child, George Omner Noble, is born to Joseph B. Noble and Sarah Alley who were married by Joseph Smith. At Brigham Young's house in Nauvoo William W. Phelps and his wife Sally receive their second anointings. (9)
