Joseph writes a lengthy letter to the editor of the American Revivalist and Rochester Observer, warning that "not many years shall pass away, before the United States shall present such a scene of bloodshed as has not a parallel in the history of our nation: pestilence, hail, famine, and earthquake will sweep the wicked of this generation from off the face of the land. to open and prepare the way for the return of the lost tribes of Israel from the north country." (1)

[Joseph Smith] Kirtland, Ohio. In a letter to newspaper editor N. C. Saxton, Joseph Smith taught about the gathering of Israel and prophesied of pestilence and civil war. (2)

Unpublished revelation calls Frederick G. Williams "to be a councellor and scribe unto my servant Joseph." He is to consecrate his farm "for bringing forth of the revelations." (1)

Frederick G. Williams is to be paid $300 a year to serve as assistant scribe for the United Firm. (1)

Responding to a letter from W. W. Phelps, Joseph criticizes the brethren in Zion, warning they will receive the judgments of God if they do not repent. (1)

[Joseph Smith] Kirtland, Ohio. In a letter to William W. Phelps containing the text of the revelation in Doctrine & Covenants 88, Joseph Smith talked of the great blessings awaiting the Saints but also prophesied that they would be driven from Missouri if they persisted in iniquity. (2)

Hyrum Smith and Orson Hyde write Edward, Isaac Morley, and John Corrill objecting to their "accusing Brother Joseph in rather an indirect way of seeking after monarchial power and authority." (1)

[Lucy Mack Smith] At a conference of elders, Joseph Jr. speaks in tongues and institutes the ordinance of washing feet. Joseph Sr. gives him a blessing. Lucy describes a private family meeting about this time at which Joseph Jr. washes his brothers feet; they speak in tongues and send a messenger for Lucy. She abandons her bread unbaked to join them. (4)

School of the Prophets organized in Whitney Store at Kirtland, Ohio. (5)

[Joseph Smith] Kirtland, Ohio. Joseph Smith was at a conference of high priests where the brethren experienced the gift of tongues. (2)

Joseph speaks in tongues, opening two-day conference. Washing of feet instituted. Speaking, praying, singing in tongues throughout. Meal of the Lord's supper. (1)

[Joseph Smith] Conducted first session of School of the Prophets, Kirtland. (6)
