Mormon History, October 1831

/Mormon History Chronology/
-- During October 1831
[Hyde, Orson] Ordained elder October 1831. (1)

-- 1-Nov 12, 1831
[Lucy Mack Smith] Four special conferences are held. The conference at Hiram, Ohio, votes to publish 10,000 copies of the Book of Commandments. (2)

-- 1831 1-2 November
Decision made at conference in Hiram, Ohio, to print Book of Commandments. (3)

-- Nov 1, 1831
Conference, at Hiram, OH. Decision made to print revelations received by Joseph Smith. [See Book of Commandments.] (4)

Conference (Hiram): Vote to print the Book of Commandments, brethren bear witness of the book, D&C 1 (Preface to the book), D&C 67 (challenge to manufacture a revelation), and another Revelation of November 1, 1831 (testimony of the witnesses to the Book of Commandments).
All in Favor? (5)

[Joseph Smith] Hiram, Ohio. Joseph Smith received Doctrine & Covenants 1, a revelation which later became the Lords preface to the Doctrine and Covenants, at a special conference of the Church. (6)

[Joseph Smith] Joseph has compiled all of the revelations he has received so far and the members of the Church decide to print them under the name Book of Commandments. This book is now known as the Doctrine and Covenants. (7)

[Revelations] Hiram, Ohio. Doctrine and Covenants 1. Preface to Lord's commandments. Sends disciples out to warn the world to repent. He comes soon and will destroy the wicked. Lord called Joseph, gave him commandments , so everlasting covenant could be established, gave power to translate Book of Mormon. Only true and living church. Disciples speak for the Lord. Wars coming soon when the devil will have power over his dominion. The Lord will dwell with the righteous and come down in judgment on the wicked. Study the book. It is true, won't fail. Voice of the Lord or his servants-it is the same.
Received during the break between sessions on the first day of conference convened to discuss the publication of the Book of Commandments.
Evening and Morning Star 1, no. 10 (Mar. 1833): {6}, heading: "Revelation Given, Hiram, Ohio, November 1, 1831. ". (8)

[Revelations] Hiram, Ohio. Revelation of November 1, 1831. Testimony of the witnesses to Book of Commandments.

-- November 1 or 2 1831
[Revelations] Kirtland, Ohio. Doctrine and Covenants 67. Elders did not have sufficient faith to receive a witness of Joseph's revelations. Challenge to write one as good as Joseph's weakest. They know there is nothing unrighteous in the revelations, and since the Father is the source of righteousness, they must be true. If they will put themselves right with God, they will see him-spiritually, not naturally, for mortals must be quickened by the Spirit in order to endure His presence. They aren't ready for that yet-or for the ministering of angels-but they should be patient until they attain perfection and not turn back.
Not printed in the Book of Commandments.
1835 Doctrine and Covenants 25 heading: Revelation given November, 1831. (8)

-- November 1-3, 1831
[Revelations] Hiram, Ohio. Doctrine and Covenants 68. Orson Hyde, the Johnson brothers, and William E. McLellin are called on missions. Inspired speech of priesthood holders is scripture. Believe and be baptized or be damned. Sealing to eternal life. Other bishops. Parents to teach children. Baptize at 8. Idlers in Zion, greed. Those who don't pray should be called before the bishop.
1835 revisions include the authority of the First Presidency over bishops, Melchizedek priesthood, and the prerogatives of the literal descendants of Aaron.
Evening and Morning Star, October 1832, heading: "A Revelation, Given November, 1831. " (It is not unusual for the paper to printed late. In this case, the October issue was printed after a November revelation was received in Ohio. Travel between the two points usually took a month. ).
Not printed in the Book of Commandments.
1835 Doctrine and Covenants 22 heading: A Revelation, given November, 1831, to Orson Hyde, Luke Johnson, Lyman Johnson and William E. McLellin. The mind and will of the Lord, as made known by the voice of the Spirit to a conference concerning certain elders; and also certain items, as made known, in addition to the covenants and commandments. (8)

-- Nov 2, 1831
Conference continues: Sidney Rigdon ordains Lyman Johnson to the High Priesthood; Oliver Cowdery reads a new revelation; brethren bear witness to the truthfulness of the revelations. (5)
