[Brigham Young] --13-- I returned from Bear Creek, where I had been preaching for a few days, and spent a pleasant time. (1)

Joseph Smith writes, in a letter declining a requested visit to nearby Quincy, Illinois: "Moreover, wisdom and prudence seem to forbid my coming, on account of the bitter feeling which manifests itself in various places between this and Quincy,-not that I have any apprehensions for my personal safety; for the same kind hand which hath hitherto been my shield and support would save me from the power of my wicked persecutors; . . ." He is assassinated in Carthage four months later. (2)

Nauvoo, Illinois. Joseph Smith wrote a letter to Joseph L. Heywood, an LDS merchant in Quincy, Illinois. (3)

[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 14 I spent the day with Elder Taylor. We Paid Mr Matison $45.81 cts at the end of the execution he sued out against us. It was the first time we were sued. (5)

[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 16th I went in company with Mrs Woodruff to Br John Benbows. We found Wilford (who was with them) quite sick with the measels & Br Benbow was sick. I spent the night with them. (5)

[Joseph Smith Diary] Friday, February 16th At home. [several lines left blank] This eve spent 2 hours in my office in conversation with Bro[ther] Phelps. [I] directed him to write a communication on Gov[ernor] Ford's Letter in the Warsaw Signal. (4)

[Patriarchal Blessings] Laura Farnsworth Owen. (Given by Hyrum Smith.)

"Patriarchal Blessing Sister Laura [Farnsworth Owen] I lay my hands upon your head in the name of Jesus of Nazareth and bless you in answer to the desires of your heart because of the zeal and integrity of your heart for the cause of truth and the glorious promises of the last days therefore there is a reward laid up to be meeted out unto you and your posterity after you from generation to generation the Priesthood shall be in your lineage and prosperity shall be at your doors. Notwithstanding the trials that are common and incident unto the children of men more especially unto the Saints in these days in which you are permited to live--to see a day that many Prophets Holy men & women desired to see but died without the sight only by the eye of faith as many of us look forth unto the coming of the Son of man but shall be permited to see the way prepared before his face and you shall be blessed in your house by and by according to the desires of your heart as touching that ma
tter in basket and in store in knowledge in wisdom and in the communion of the Spirit with rights and inheritance which rights inherent shall be manifested in due time as also your lineage in which cometh your inheritance under the seal of the everlasting covenant therefore you are blessed Temporaly and spiritualy even you are one of the children of Jacob and heir to the promises made to Abraham an inheritor of this holy mountain and your seed after you and your name shall be perpetuated from generation to generation and your days and years shall be according to your faith and the desires of your heart. [Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] 17th I spent the day with Br Benbow. Pruned the peach trees. (5)

Anti-Mormon activists hold a convention at Carthage, Illinois, to devise ways to expel the Saints from the state. (7)

Nauvoo, Illinois. Joseph Smith produced an article called Pacific Innuendo, which explained the Church's desire for peace with all peoples. (3)
