Mormon History, Jul 1, 1849

[Hosea Stout Diary] Sunday July 1st 1849. Went to meeting as usual. Emegrants are coming in as usual[.] This evening A. W. Babbitt came in from the States bringing the United State mail and on appointment for Jos L. Haywood post master.
This evening Wm Bird was tried before Bishops Smoot Perkins & Hickenlooper for stealing a pair of boots from one of the emegrants and found guilty. Condemned to pay him four fold return the boots pay the man & officers for their trouble and fined 50 dollars to be applied on the roads.
